A drug
addict tries to hide his or her addiction.
This being the case, how can one tell if the suspected addict is using? One indication is a change in appetite and in eating habits. Unexplained weight loss or gain in the suspected user can signal a
developing drug addiction.
Many drugs
can cause rapid weight gain, weight loss, nausea and a lessening or an increase
in appetite. To some, the drug may
heighten the pleasure of eating; in others the same drug could create a lack of
motivation to do anything, including eating.
Therefore it is very important to monitor the weight of a suspected drug
addict. It is also important to observe the
weight of a former drug addict if one suspects a relapse.
The easiest
way to tell that a person is suffering from drug addiction, whether they are a
new drug addict or a former user who is relapsing, is by physical
manifestations coupled with extreme attitude changes. Some other physical signs to be aware of are:
Change in complexion (becomes sallow, toxic, etc), pronounced circles under the
eyes, change in blood pressure (higher or lower) and change in perspiration
(more or less).
