Dalmane (also called Dalmadorm) is made from a benzodiazepine derivative called flurazepam.  Flurazepam is a central nervous system depressant usually prescribed as an anticonvulsant, sedative or muscle relaxant.  Dalmane is classified as a schedule IV narcotic by the DEA.  Schedule IV drugs are described by the US government as having a low potential for dependence and high availability with prescription.

 

Dalmane Side Effects

 

Dalmane can cause severe side effects such as: allergic reactions, jaundice, palpitations, rash, difficulty breathing, severe sedation, anorexia, depression or dependence.

 

Less serious side effects include impaired motor function, dizziness, heartburn, nausea, stomach pain, amnesia, cognitive deficits, nervousness, irritability, cramps, headache, behavior changes, clumsiness, drowsiness or dizziness.

 

Signs of Overdose

 

Overdose symptoms include: lethargy, light-headedness, mental confusion, unconsciousness, coma or death.

 

Withdrawal Symptoms

 

Long-term use of Dalmane often leads to tolerance and dependence with the appearance of withdrawal symptoms when one decides to lower dosage or end use of Dalmane.  

 

Withdrawal symptoms include: insomnia, headache, nausea, vomiting, anxiety, impaired concentration, elevated blood pressure, depression, suicidal or homicidal ideation, tremor, perspiration, loss of appetite, gastrointestinal problems, catatonia, coma or toxic psychosis.
