Tranxene is made up of a derivative of benzodiazepine called clorazepate.  Tranxene works by slowing down the central nervous system and is often prescribed as an anti-convulsant, sedative or anti-anxiety medication.  Tranxene is classified as a schedule IV narcotic by the DEA.  This means that it has a low potential for dependence and is available with a prescription.

 

Tranxene Side Effects

 

Tranxene can cause serious side effects such as confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior, depression, suicidal ideation, tremor, urination difficulties and dependence.

 

Less serious side effects include drowsiness, amnesia, dizziness, blurred vision, nervousness, irritability, insomnia, muscle weakness, rash, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth or headache.

 

Signs of Overdose

 

A suspected overdose of Tranxene should be given medical attention right away as a Tranxene overdose can be fatal.  Symptoms of overdose include: lethargy, light-headed feeling, fainting, coma or death.

 

Short and Long Term Effects

 

Consistent Tranxene use can lead to tolerance of the drug and dependence.  Tranxene can become addictive after a short period of use – especially when taken at a high dosage level. 

 

Symptoms of withdrawal from Tranxene include anxiety, apprehension, vomiting, diarrhea, terror, insomnia, convulsions, a condition resembling delirium tremens, depression or toxic psychosis.
