Ativan tablets
Ativan (also called Temesta) is a benzodiazepine drug called lorazepam. Ativan has anti-anxiety, sedative/hypnotic, anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant properties. Ativan was first marketed in 1971 and has most often been prescribed for psychiatric treatment of anxiety. Ativan is classified as a schedule IV narcotic by the DEA. This means that it has a low potential for abuse and is available with a prescription.

Side Effects
Ativan can cause very serious side effects such as:
allergy, suicidal ideation, depression, confusion, hostility, hallucination,
rage, decreased inhibitions, irrational lack of fear, unconsciousness heart
palpitations, urination difficulty, jaundice or dependence.
Less serious side effects include drowsiness, dizziness,
blurred vision, exhaustion, insomnia, muscle weakness, lack of coordination,
amnesia, difficulty concentrating, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dry mouth,
decreased libido or appetite changes.
Signs of
Overdose
Overdose
of Ativan can be fatal. If one suspects
an overdose, get medical attention right away.
Other overdose symptoms include: lethargy, confusion, hypnotic state,
uncontrolled muscle spasms, weakness, lack of coordination, loss of balance,
cardiovascular depression, respiratory depression, unconsciousness or coma.
Short and Long Term Effects
Consistent
Ativan use can lead to tolerance of the drug and dependence. Ativan can become addictive after a short
period of use – especially when taken at a high dosage level.
Symptoms
of withdrawal from Ativan include headaches, tension, confusion, anxiety,
apprehension, light sensitivity, muscle pain, stomach cramps, heart
palpitations, vomiting, diarrhea, terror, insomnia, convulsions, hallucination,
short-term memory loss, depression, hyperthermia or psychosis.
